Looking at the the two presentations... we have examined the 1700's and 1800's. What have you noticed about the progression of history? Are these centuries more like us? Are they still very different? What stood out to you about this time period (inventions, immigration, innovation, industry, culture, etc.)? Compare and contrast these time periods with our current times. Remember we are still looking for an answer of how we got to where we are today, and how our world works today.
Also, think about the various activities run by your classmates on Thursday and Friday, and tell us how you feel it would have been like to live during 1700-1900.
In the 1700-1800's I think that the world seems to have grown more like what we are today. There are more inventions and the mindset seems to be more modernized. It was also the start of major industry and the start of automobiles. There was also more immigration, especially to America which became and independent country from England. I think that these two centuries were the centuries that took the biggest step in becoming what we are today, through major inventions and ideas. I think to live in this time would be really hard, especially being a girl because this is the time when the belief system was that men were better, so women were not treated well. Also, being the time on industry there was a lot of dangerous work to be done, especially for children.
ReplyDeletei noticed that, the role of certain groups of people, such as men and women remained that same as men being higher than women. women weren't treat equally, they had to answer to men, ask permission from men, pretty much had to do everything for men. also with becoming a citizen of the united states, one group touch based on that subject, which sort of relates today with how we put like tests and other things in the way of becoming a u.s citizen, to see if someone is worthy enough to become a part of the unite states. however we are different in the methods we use to do so. and as each century comes on by, it keeps getting more and more similar to our way of life today. little changes here and there starting something big, such as women rights, the declaration of independence and etc, just one step at a time in history we study leads to what today has for us. with multiple revolutions as well, industrial, American, french and etc, with those leaps, with technology, freedom, and perspective on the world/people, it led to having our world without racism against black people/colored people, led to our country being free, led to a huge burst into the future with technology, and also leading us to the destruction of our planet with our waste and ignorant way of life. it only takes one step to get somewhere else, and with the steps throughout the centuries it has pushed us into our world today.
ReplyDeleteLooking back at the 1700's and 1800's, i would say the society has evolved from the way of thinking but not much. Sure we now say that everyone should have equal rights, but do we? Discrimination is still around. We could say that we still have that mindset but we don't show it the same way. In the eyes of technology, we have really evolved. we went from a typewriter to and portable electronic device that does everything. We depend on technology way to much and because of that, our society has been really bad. Our immigration problems are worse than before. Many people want to come to the U.S. because of their dreams.
ReplyDeleteI think that living in between 1700-1900 would of been great for many of us. Our people are so lazy that this has cause obesity in the modern world and if living in the past, people would of been healthier.
Throughout the years i think we have progressed/grown is through technology. But we have grown because cars were invented, there were some major businesses that started, and some inventions. I think we have advanced a lot and all of those things that i mentioned impacted us today and i think if we were to go back in time and try to adapt to a certain century, it would be hard for us to survive due to our advancement in technology. I also think a lot of our morals are the same, even though there were rules/laws created as time went by but i don't think that is going to change any of our actions or how we think of each other and i think it never will.
ReplyDeletei think that the centuries get more and more similar because its more and more closer the what we know.
ReplyDeletei think the immigration part of it is really cool because thats what brought people to this country.
I think up until the 18th century, society was changing as a whole. Once we hit the 18th an 19th century, the world that we live in started to form. Things that are still around come up in this time. A lot of the evolutionary ideas that we have today, came about in the these centuries. These centuries are a lot like us today. A dimmed and less advanced version of us, but us non the less. Assembly lines that were started in these centuries, are still around today, but we are so evolved that we have put machines in the place of the women and children that worked in them in these centuries. In the 18th and 19th century we definitely had a better understanding of what we were on earth for and what our purpose was. Religion played a much smaller part in societies idea of our existence.
ReplyDeleteThe progression between the 1700's and 1900's was very tremendous. These were the centuries where the new types of technologies that impacted today were shown. These centuries are very much like we are today, the stuff that they were able to invent we still have today. The way we thought was very similar in the way of convenience. We are different in the way where we thought women were below us, and now a days we think of them as our equal. What really stood out to me was the fact how much we were similar, everything they had and used we still have only we have made it better and much more convenient.
ReplyDeleteThe centuries and today are very similar like i just mentioned we have what they had we have just made it better. But we have made newer things like the computer. And like the new ways we treat women. The different opportunities we have now like school for all and not just one race. I think that living during this time would have been more difficult because we wouldn't have the daily things we need, or we wouldn't have the things that help us get around. I feel that it would have been a creative experience going back that it was the industrial and science revolutions.
When looking at the presentations from the 17th century till the 19th century i thought that it was interesting how fast the people went away from the church more and more. They overcame that fear that the government had more power and that led to the government revolutionizing to fit societies needs. This was a time of new discoveries that shaped the this world into a convenient one. They were just like us today searching for new ways that will make life easier. Once those new ideas were out society took grasp of them and it made companies greedy.THat is still seen today but companies have been more fair with their employees since prices are sky rocketing. It would of sucked to be working in factories that treated you without respect and put your life in danger.
ReplyDeleteThe progression of history goes from arts to inventions, from philosophy more towards inventors and scientists. It essentially becomes more modern.Obviously as the time gets closer to our time period, it will be more and more like us, since this was just a couple hundred years ago instead of half a century or more ago. What stood out to me was the fact of greed and inventions. Essentially that's all it was and still is.
ReplyDeleteI think it would have sucked to live between 1700-1900. Too much corruption and greed (unfortunately just like today). Also, the poverty would be as unbearable with so much of it and people being treated crappy would suck. It isn't as bad today, but it still is pretty bad.
Looking at the the two presentations... we have examined the 1700's and 1800's. What have you noticed about the progression of history?
ReplyDeleteI see that history has kind of sped up. It seems like more things are happening now. The evolution and birth of ideologies have started to speed up. It seems that societies have changed a lot and have sort of shifted into more of what we have today as society. I can definitely see the connections. It seems like more people are falling into the categories that we came up with at the beginning of the year. It seems society became more curious and more greedy and they wanted more things to be more convenient for them. I think that as time goes on, the changes become more prevalent. More and more people rise up to change things and stand up for what they believe in. As such, the changes back then, transcend to now.
What stood out to you about this time period (inventions, immigration, innovation, industry, culture, etc.)?
I think all the discoveries and changes in different cultures have paved the way for us today. Jane Austen is an example. She defied the stereotypes of society back then and her books are some of the most famous period books of all time. She paved the way for more women to start writing and start coming out of their shell. Ann Hutchinson is another example. She defied the normality of the church and took a stand for what she believed in. I think that the scientific discoveries have also paved the way for us to be better advanced today as a society. If the discoveries were not made, I think we would be pushed back into society a little but not so much that those discoveries would have never be made, but they would just be made later. Also, the people who rose up to challenge the norms are always the people who make a difference. I feel like that is what today's society is all about. We, as a country have the right to rebel and voice our opinions and as such, there is more change within our country. Whether that change be good or bad, there is still constant change.
ReplyDeleteI feel that the 1700's to the 1800's were mostly the same. at that time people were depending on religion. this century's are nothing like us now. we are mostly in the science and technology age not religion. most of the inventions we us today like the light bulb or gum for explain. I feel that the 1800's to the 2000's were the biggest leap in our time line it is the only time that we were and still are showing the biggest growth.
Taking into consideration the 1700s-1900s there was a lot of growth happening within the society. I say that because they were expanding ideas and putting them into work and we can very well see that because of their scientific growth which led them to new medical discoveries that benefited the society as a whole. Their technology expanding in new ways and people were improving what they made. The lives of the people back then are different then the lives we live now. Because people were treated differently and dressed differently.
ReplyDeleteIn the 1700-1900 we keep progressing but as we keep changing so do our inventions they keep getting better and better for us. I think that's just what we keep doing now only with inventions but with everything else as well, it might be working fine for the older generation but for the younger generation it might not be so change happens. Religion changes as well we might not see it but it does everything changes for the better or for the worst.
ReplyDeleteI would have to agree with that… these past two centuries do feel that they relate a lot to what we are now. The integration of all the different cultures in one place like what happened in The Unites States and in other countries. Like immigration, innovations, inventions, and industry is still strong today. Living in a diverse country as ours, you get to meet people of different origins. People are still in the mode of industrializing our environment like cutting down our rainforests and making roads and factories and other things that are getting people out of the countryside and into the cities. It would have been cool to live in that point in time because it would have been nice to see all the various things that happened in the time. and the art work and horses :)
ReplyDeleteI think these centuries were getting close to our century, they all involved the progression of women in our society and they both patriotic revolutions that shaped who we are as a people are today. These revolutions/wars had reshaped the outcome of history. In 1774 no one thought that the U.S(although it wasn't called the U.S at the time)would be the super power that it is today, they didn't even consider them. But these evolutions, the hypocritical yearning for freedom is what separate the winners from the losers
ReplyDelete*From all of the presentations so far, I have noticed that they all revolve around government and religion. Today, we are focused more on government and not so much on religion. Also, I think that progression in science/inventions was faster and more important back then. What I mean is, we don't really know what to make these days. There are so many things that have already been made, and so we don't focus on that anymore, which I think is pretty upsetting. Back then, people were more creative with inventions, and now, inventions are based off one another. There has hardly been anything new made. Sure, we are more advanced today with our technology, but until there are flying cars, we are progressing rather slowly in comparison with past centuries.
ReplyDelete*Since life back then during the 1700s through 1900s was very class oriented, I don't think I would have wanted to live during those times. First off, I am a female, and females weren't treated very well. Second, if someone wasn't "high class" then they were basically nothing, and I wouldn't want to go through that. It would have been really hard to live back then. I wouldn't have as much freedom as I do now.
Throughout the years we have managed to shift in many directions based on our progress. We some similarities to back then in the 1700 and in the 1800. We have learned mostly about women and how they were treated. And everything seemed unfair so we do see major changes, though women still don't obtain much freedom. We still see many laws based on the type of sex a person is.
ReplyDeleteWe do see woman rights back then, and the declaration of independence which was a major thing.
We see an advance in our world based on our society shifting upwards because of greed or needs. We can also see greed back then and not us much now because it's not as noticeable. And with the desires to want something, there has to be new creations and discoveries. So the people try their best to find something new, to make a certain invention, in order to be successful.
The thing that I have noticed the most about the progression of history is that everyone slowly started putting themselves first and looking to make things more convenient for themselves. And for a lot of people that meant pushing the “Church” away or to the sidelines. Plus the progression of history was always constantly changing from a little idea to a global movement. If you were to compare us now to the centuries of the past we do have a few things that would make us seem the same but we are also very different. Overall we are very different from what we have now to what society had back then but we wouldn’t have anything we have today if it wasn’t for what we have been given honestly living in the 21st century we are spoiled.
ReplyDeleteWhat stood out the most to me in the past centuries was the culture and religion. Their culture was basically their beliefs and society which I followed. When it came around to religion especially in the 19th century it was one of those things that was hard to find. Religion was hidden deep within every decision people made and what they wanted to believe in.
For one we are similar because we are always looking for a way to get better and make things to our convenience such as inventions. Of course we are different because we don’t have slaves and no one uses the idea of communism. We are also different when it comes to fashion in the past they used to keep all of the women covered up nowadays women wear anything they want shorts and a tan top. I think that we got to where we are today all because people began to question and go against the church. Whether it was because they didn’t trust the church anymore, they were looking for something new, or they were making a change. If it wasn’t for all of that we wouldn’t have had people making inventions, or coming up with different beliefs or religions. (I presented on Friday) but I think that the Thursday’s activity showed me that people in the 17th century were becoming laidback about religion and everything thing you did or any decision you made affected everyone around you. If I were to live there I would be cautious with certain things I would do.
Through the 1700-1800's was the time in which revolutions began forming. Woman began to rebel against traditional ways and family members. I think the people had began to notice that they could over power the government if one solid idea unified them all. I think this has brought us to what we have become today. Now we have become more advanced in technology which takes us to a search of inventions and innovations. One of the biggest impacts was that America became Independent from Europe due to their high demands of taxes.
ReplyDelete-Although we had slavery during this time period it really brought a positive effect during this time period. Businesses were booming because we had more people (slaves) working that brought up the economy up. Religion was no longer present as much and this also had a positive during this time. People started to become more independent really figuring how they can be best and improve. Like in Asia, Asia was doing so great. They had it all and they made sure to isolate themselves so they won’t ruin their greatness going on.
ReplyDelete-Yes, these centuries are more like us, during this time people were starting to be more independent (except slaves). They wanted to become better, grow. They wanted their country to be the best of the best. We are different by the equality, during this time equality wasn’t at its best. Women were being treated differently and so were the African Americans.
-Industry stood out to me the most. This was the change agent to better the lives (for the most part everyone) of everyone. -Equality – We make sure everyone has the same rights as someone across the street whereas centuries before us this wasn’t the case. Industrial – We similar to the industrial aspect as back then. We’re making sure the businesses are rising and changing lives.
-For me I would feel like living during the 1700-1900 would be kind of normal (if I wasn’t in the mindset of today) and the reason I say this is because I’ll already be use to the lifestyle.
I think between the 1600s to the 1700s there is a big ideological shift in all aspects compared to the other centuries; new technology is rising, society is taking a notice of their power, countries are looking for independence, and mostly everything is becoming more similar to what we are used to. The 1800s I feel is a continuation of this process, really taking it to the next level and, by the end, really breaking through the norms of the other centuries. What I liked learning about the most for these centuries was the roles of society and who played what. In a sense that still hasn’t changed much from before seeing as the men are still at the top of the hierarchy, then women, and slaves. What has changed a lot have been our lifestyles. This technological movement really took off in the 1700-1800s with the Industrial Revolution and has affected us greatly, seeing as the way that we do things are no longer the same but much easier and done with technology like right now. Overall, I still think we are an new world with ancient problems. Despite the advancements in some places, there are others who still live in the 1700-1800s. I would not like to have lived in the 1700-1800s because most likely I would be in Mexico (or I might still be in Spain) and during this time period Mexico was in war with the United States. If I were to live in the United States, I would probably be considered white, own a slave, marry an unknown man, and reproduce like a bunny and be happy with myself. So no thank you.
ReplyDeleteThroughout history there has been a shift of power away from the church. In the 1700s and 1800s people were not nearly as reliant on the church as they used to be. In the 1800s especially, there seems to be a bigger focus on economy. People were poor and were willing to work in poor conditions for little money. This helped the industries grow because they were able to produce a lot of product to sell for very little money.
ReplyDeleteI think, compared to previous centuries, these centuries are similar to us. African American’s and Women’s rights were starting to show up more although they still had a long ways to go. People were also starting to make things faster and more efficient. Machines and assembly belts were invented for factories so they could make products faster and easier.
The mindset of people during this century was still very different to today. Although women were allowed to get jobs outside of the home, they were still considered to be below men. Slaves were set free but were still considered far below white people. Safety wasn’t as important as other things, like working. Children would have to get dangerous jobs to help support the family.
The thing that stood out to me the most about this time period was the industry and the inventions that sprung up because of industry. Money became the most important thing to people. The owners of factories used machinery and assembly lines so they could get products faster and pay their workers less, this made their industry grow. The workers were desperate for money because so many families were poor so women and children had to work in these factories under poor conditions for little money.
Living during the 1700s and 1800s would have been horrible, especially for a girl. I would have very few rights and would most likely get married off to someone I didn’t know very well. I would have to spend the rest of my life raising children and caring for the house or working under terrible conditions in a big factory where I was paid poorly. I would most likely have to send my children to work like me as well instead of giving them a proper education.
i think that the progression of history is just like what we are now we knew we had top improve and we couldnt wait so we gathered those important people that had those ideas to make us better more advanced and created what we are now. we didnt just do things because they helped us be more advanced say in science but we did things because we were greedy and we wanted to be that one person on top and we couldnt take 2nd place so the greedyness led us up to where we are now. but now i think that we need to stop this and instead of making ourselfves better in the eyes of other people we need to make ourselfve better on the inside and our environment
ReplyDeleteWell looking through the centuries, I can see that obviously, how we live today was affected in a very important way. We can see that with the dominance of Napoleon through the 18th and 19th centuries, we can see that what he did was something that really impacted the ways of Europe. I think that, like many people said if something wouldn't of happened, then it would have happened eventually... but you have to think that other people had different ideas.
ReplyDeleteIf I were to have lived in those centuries, I think that I would have hated it. I think that I am biased because I already live here, with all the technological advances, I can't live without it. I think that if I had to pick a century, it would be the 19th century because of all the inventions and everything that was going on in that time. Things were being discovered and everyone was advancing quickly.
As we get closer and closer to our current century, it is becoming more obvious how we came to be. Now, at the time periods we just learned about, sooo many new movements started to rise up. This all sprouted from curiosity and greed that’s in us humans, and we’ve come so far. I can easily make connections now between the centuries. Although these movements can still be seen today, I have opened my eyes to how we protest/spread ideas compared to how we did back then. These days, our way of advertising shows mainly on the internet. And by merely pressing a button, we can feel like we cooperated/made a change. It’s not surprising though, since we now have this technology and freedom. Then again, if it weren’t for all those civilizations who paved the way for us with all their discoveries and inventions, we would not be where we are today. I do believe, however, we would have eventually find a way sooner or later because our ideology hasn’t changed that much.
ReplyDeleteI missed the second presentation (the 19th Century) so I can only comment on the 18th Century (My group).
ReplyDeleteI think that from this time period there a lot of differences, specifically in the treatment of woman. Woman during this time are still considered less than men. This does not change dramatically until the 20th Century. However one important thing during this time is the industrial revolution. This was when science and inventions were being created in order to make the world more dependent on technology.
I think that everything that has happened in the past has affected us today. There are specific examples (industrial rev, french rev, american rev.)
Throughout these presentations I was able to see clearly the changes that occurred that has help shaped who we are today and help our society grow and opened new worlds in science and technology, which has expanded our knowledge about the world around us and beyond. During these time periods there times were the society met problems but of course there will always be problems that everyone will have to face in their life. Today we still face problems that deal with job employment, protests.
ReplyDeleteDuring the 18th century I was able to see how the society started stand up for their self and unity to reach a common goal and revolt for what they believe was the right thing. Through their actions the government struggled to control the citizens. In addition the united state of America is a great example since it became independent country and is now a first world nation. Towards the end of the century the numbers of inventions were in the rise this was the affect of the first industrial revolution. By the 19th century it was vivid that it was a time period filled with the some of the greatest invention and new discovers that help science skyrocket, the 19th century was for sure the birth of science. This was all possible because of the industrial revolution that demands for machinery to produce goods faster and it change the way we consume. As well as cheap labor so they would hire women and child to do jobs that were life- threatening. In addition immigration became huge since people were seeking for a better life. Throughout the century there a large scale in science and technology advance. By the end of the 19th century women started to fight for equal rights and form reformations. Also, slavery started to get abolished worldwide and later leads to equality and freedom of speech in the following century.
Throughout the century presentations I have noticed a pattern. The closer we get to our present century, the more humans began to think for themselves and learn and become more realistic. For example, in the 17th century the scientific revolution happened. Then, in the 18th century, there were many revolutions in different countries. In the 19th century, the industrial revolution happened in which people began to meet society's high standards and is when people started to be more greedy. I think we are still different than those times, but we are still connected to them. We are the result of the previous centuries and their revolutions that led us to how we are today.
ReplyDeleteI think both the 18th century and the 19th century were a start of modern times. Many revolutions and changes occurred during these centuries, which makes our society what it is today. What stood out to me the most to me was how much people stopped relying so much on the Church and started to become greedier and enhance their economy. In the 18th century, there was the industrial revolution which created factories and provided jobs for more people. Even though the working conditions weren’t that great it set the basis for the working class and women independence. I think we are different because we are more advanced, obviously, and are working towards newer inventions, which is also similar to the past centuries. Knowing myself and how much I rely on technology, I don’t think I would survive one day in the past. If I was actually born and raised in the past, everything going on would feel normal to me though. I would grow up into learning how the society was back then and would be like every other girl back then. Now, if I were to travel back in time, I would forget that women were still under men and would cause a lot of tension between people. We are taught to fight for what we think is right today because we are free, and in the 18th and 19th century that was barely coming up with all the revolutions, and freedom was a new custom and still unfamiliar to them.
ReplyDeleteLooking at the two presentations of the 1700’s to the 1900’s, I have noticed a lot about the progression of history. I feel that the difference between the centuries had been that it was becoming more modernized, and adapting to fit society’s needs in a more convenient way. It seems as if when it had hit the 19th century, there were so many new inventions, and scientific discoveries that answered the people’s questions in a more proven, and in some cases more understandable point of view. Oppose, to what religion had to answer, it seemed that as the years went on religion started to slowly go off onto the side, instead of being the main priority. I feel like this century is more like us in a way that we are still coming up with more scientific discoveries, and we have technologically advanced in many ways. Such ways as making machines to go out into the universe and find other planets and things, or scientific discoveries about new diseases, and trying to find the cure. We continue to be the same by being curious about the world around us, and being able to question and find answers based on theories and results we have gotten. I think that was one of the most important things about these centuries was that we started to find the answers, and solutions to the problems we had. We started to become more individualized and gather our own ideas about the world, instead of believing what we were forced to. To answer the question of how we got here today, and how our world works is still an unsolved mystery, yet there seems to be so many beliefs, and thoughts, but at the end of the day they all have their pros and cons on why they might be ethical or not, and in reality there is no answer to how our world works. I really feel that the world has so many challenges, and questions that are unanswered for a reason so we have a reason to live and come up with those answers. But think if every question and suggestion had been answered about the world, there would be no point of living, because we would not have any questions to follow and find answers to, or invent things to prove our theories, or religions to teach our beliefs on the world.
ReplyDeleteIf every answer was answered, the world would become boring and soon come to an end. But instead there are scientists finding these cures, or how our world came to be, natural causes, and everyone else whom contributes to our world to make it what it is. Something that I notice about those centuries, and the 21st century is the fact that I feel they appreciated things more. This Is because they lived when those things were not invented, and began to adapt to the new surroundings, so they had the opportunity to view life in both aspects of having technology and science oppose to not. Our century on the other hand is used to growing up with all these scientific facts, and theories, discoveries etc. We are accustomed to the technology around us, having TV’s and computers, telephones in a regular household, we live day by day (majority) not appreciating the things we have because that is what we have seen our whole life. It Have you ever thought about how odd it was that society was pushing religion off to the side, when the world started to revolve more on facts instead of beliefs. But then religion is so powerful that throughout those centuries, it is still around to this day, and is popular to most people as well.
ReplyDeleteI feel that it would be very stressful, and challenging to have lived in those times. Women first of all were not treated as they are treated today. I would have been happy that there started to be more jobs and opportunities for women, but it would have still been an everyday struggle. It would have been difficult to start adapting to these new things that were being taught, things that society might have never thought about and then there is an answer to, when I grew up learning to only believe in what god said. I think it would have also been a bit overwhelming for me to try to understand these new inventions, and the changing world around me, and deciding whether I should follow the crowd, or stick to my own beliefs. Would it have been fraud upon to say what I believed, and called non-sense to what I didn’t. I personally think it would have been a huge struggle, but then again I would have probably appreciated things a lot more since I was watching the juristic change.
the century's are progressing to our era and they are still different and also in someways similar we still use inventions made back in these time periods like x ray cultures are being created by a lot of cultures colliding we only got to where we are today by taking baby steps and we still have more steeps to take.
ReplyDeletei felt like in the 1800's one that i was a immigrant coming through Ellis island and actually being turned down and feeling the upset many familys did back then and same with the 1700's and having to pick if i wanted to run away or stay and how badly things could have turned out
What have you noticed about the progression of history? I have noticed that like the title of this blog, history keeps repeating itself. Meaning that our human traits greed and manipulation keep us from making long term progress. Are these centuries more like us? I believe that certain parts of the society exemplify some traits more than others in which are similar to the ones we mostly exemplify today. Are they still very different? I'd say that the actual difference is that we are aware of what is morally wrong due to what happened in those centuries, and the society then didn't have the same six hundred years to look back on. But my question is even if they did, would they have acted any different that us? What stood out to you about this time period (inventions, immigration, innovation, industry, culture, etc.)? Compare and contrast these time periods with our current times. I believe that what stood out to me was how quickly the pace of humanities wants and needs changed . It changed due to the birth of mass production. Humanity quickly adapted to getting things they want and needed over a short amount of time. Because of this our resources are being burned through at an accelerating pace. Rather than before in the past centuries.
ReplyDeletewhat i have noticed throughout history is that it becomes more equal in a sense of voting, social staus, and opportunity. well as long as you get closer to our century the more it will resemble our century. there are some things that aren't like our century such as the focus was more on agriculture rather than industry and innovation. i think what stood out for me was the population increase because of the industrial revolution. this cause people not have to worry about food but rather other stuff such as science or culture. you know, i think back then they were more driven more motivated to get want they want, but now we look for short cuts, easy ways out, and think about now and not later. Don't get me wrong there are smart decisions but there are also cowardly ones and i feel we are making the more cowardly ones. Our world is how it is because of luck, survival, and determination.
ReplyDeleteThroughout these two centuries there is still an unfairness of treatment of people. Women are still not treated equally just like how today we have more rights but women still fight to be truly equal. There is more advancements in science and technology which only fueled even more in the next centuries that makes us today, rely on technology even more than we ever have. To live in those past two centuries would be rough. If you were a woman you were pretty much property to your husband. If you were a man you had the freedom to do what you liked, had more opportunity. We have taken and changed ideology from past centuries that would fit our current society. Changed the treatment of women and slaves, used more technology in our society and changed laws. We either accept or disregard some ideology from past centuries and make them our own in our current century.
ReplyDeleteI noticed that there has been a change in power with religion. I noticed that people are very influenced by what others do and believe in. I think that these centuries are a little different than our current century because I don’t think religion is as big of a deal now as much as it was before, also there were less rights. What stood out to me were the inventions for the most part. There was a lot of knew knowledge that led to debates and a change in believes. Economy also stood out to me, there was a lot of trading going on and a lot of migrating as well which led to introduction of different things in many different places. Economy also played a big role in these centuries because it seemed like it was changing a lot throughout these years. I think life would be way different if I were to live during the 1700-1900’s. There wouldn’t be as many rights or freedoms that we have as of today.
ReplyDeleteFrom the 1700's to the 1900's was a time when a lot of new experiments, inventions and revolutions were happening. More and more we were beginning to change our original ways. Science and technology is expanding to befit us and also changes, revolutions, are happening to change the way of their way of living that. Like an example being how women were being treated inferior to men, slowly but eventually that began to change because they felt like they should be treated equally to men and soon that changed until were we are now.
ReplyDeleteBesides the change in how woman were treated and them speaking up for themselves there were also others who couldn’t stand the unfairness anymore and wanted to gain independence by going against their government like in the American Revolution. The government felt no sympathy for others, and people felt the need for change. I think that those changes and revolutions happening are what exactly led us to what we are today.
We have become more independent and since more inventions are forming we are looking for, and as things become to progress more. In the Industrial revolution more inventions were being made for our convenience. We become obsessed with the need to do better, and to improve our work. This is what we have kept throughout these centuries.
The Centuries between 1700-1900 seem a little bit more like us now. More things seem to be interwinded to work with out society today. I believe that innovations with technologies and science started to emerge and free themselves from religion finally, making a great start. Although obviously a lot of their new discoveries and technologies weren't precise or just right, it was a great new start to what we have now. Yes, they are very different because they had a really different set of mind, history was our teaching fathers and is the inspirational need,we need and sought from today. Without it I'm pretty sure we'd be around the starting point of obtaining greater technology and innovations.
ReplyDeleteSociety differs alot from what we had for the past centuries, we went from having other people taken away from their homeland and making them seem as not human, driven to slaves and later on, to abolishing slavery for the most part, but yet still having discrimination of all sorts of races. As well as religion and other qualities of a human being to be disrespected.
Luckily there were great true leaders to have humanity change from that over time, at least for the very most part. It took alot of wars, pain, agony, and a lot of time to get to what we are today as mankind.
Through the progression of history of the 1700’s and 1800’s, I can see the centuries are getting more and more modern like how we are today. They had many new inventions still used today (rail travel, light bulbs, telephones) and incorporated many new ideas that are still incorporated in modern society. But at the same time, the centuries are still very different from modern day, because their inventions and ideas were only in small, secluded areas for the most part, while today you could see them very often anywhere you go. Inventions that stood out this century were: light bulbs, telephone, steam engine, steam locomotive (they’re two different things) and the radio. All of those (with the exceptions of the steam inventions) are still today, albeit in different, advanced forms. But it also could be argued that the steam inventions were simply evolved into diesel and electric inventions. Under immigration, with Ellis Island coming into thought, though it itself is now closed, many other immigration centers are now up and running everywhere around the world, but in better treating conditions than Ellis Island ever was. With the Industrial Revolution, industry obviously evolved very much so in the 1800’s and stood out to me very profoundly. These societies were similar to us because they had new ideas that took time to be fully accepted into their societies. They are different because each had more superior technology as time progressed, and we obviously have more superior tech than either society had. They were also different in their views, as both societies were racist and nowadays racism still exists but not as much as it used to. But taking away those things, our society isn’t so different than the previous ones: we had a common religion, common economy, common geography, common governments and overall common societies.
ReplyDeleteThese three centuries, 1700-1900 laid the basic foundation on how our society today was going to look like and function. These were the times when the Church was proven by scientists who verified that Earth does, in fact, rotate around the Sun and the Sun being the center, not the other way around. These were the times when Industrial Revolution conquered the economy and changed how people lived their lifestyles entirely. Farms turned to factories; farmers turned to factory workers. These were the times when people started to look for good fortune in someplace else, and decided to migrate to Americas. These were the times when there was technological inventions and advancement left and right that we still use today.
ReplyDeleteFrom the year 1700 to 1900, there was a progression of people’s faith and their religion. As time passed by, people started to have their own opinions in a way and had more of a choice to make their own decisions compared to the previous centuries. Women were still below men, but they had more choices in order to better their social standing. Before, they were only educated for the sake of tending to their homes and educating their own children with the basics. During these centuries, they even had the chance to work in factories. They were paid less than men, but still, it was improvement in a way.
Yes, the centuries are more like us in the way people work. Our economy is base off of supply and demand and factories are a great way to give everyone what they want without wasting that many resources. We mass produce everything, and I believe, are still under Industrial Revolution in this sense. The time between the 1800’s and 1900’s was when our society started and became dependent to technology. This was the time when our society decided to fully manipulate the environment in order to live a more convenient lifestyle in a globalized scale.
Like I mentioned before, the social pyramid was what interested me the most. It was obvious that there were three major classes: men, women, and slaves. It was interesting how the people who invented things, who were leaders of revolutions, who were famous – most, if not all of them, were men. There weren’t many women pioneers, and the society’s belief of men having to be the first for everything, or the best for everything, was, I think, the one who was stopping them from being so. There was a clear line between citizens and slaves. Slaves did not question their fate, because they didn’t know any better. Living as slaves, during these times, were better than living as runaways.
Our world works today in a way that we just take, take, take. We don’t question where things come from and just take them for granted. It makes me wonder how that ideology formed. From 1700 to 1900, people were always amazed and dreadful of the new things invented. They were invented during their time and it’s almost human instinct for us to hate change. But with the industrial revolution, it’s kind of amazing how this revolutionized the whole world – this means that human as a whole wanted this to happen.
If I was to live during these times, I don’t think I’d be the same girl as I am now. I like talking and I’m blunt, but women weren’t permitted to speak their opinion out loud. I think I’d be a puppet for my parents’ desires – studying for them, wearing certain clothes for them, and even marrying for them. I crave independence, and to be a woman during the 17th, 18th, and 18th century did not allow me to live the lifestyle I want. If I didn’t know any better, I think I would just get along with the idea because, what do I know better? But I think, somewhere deep down, I’d be restless and unhappy.
Looking at the two presentations... we have examined the 1700's and 1800's.
ReplyDelete-It seems (to me) that while those centuries advanced quickly with technology, they did not advance/change too much as a society, and some (specifically in the U.S.) resisted change that was brought quickly, like bills or civil liberties. In this context, the centuries of the past are rather similar to today, as there are plenty who want sudden change, and others who loathe it. However, (in my opinion) it seemed society was willing to accept roles given to them without too much question (unless that role directly interfered with society’s overall interest) whereas today, were individuality is more valued than before (again, specifically in the U.S) and change is more prone to happen. In addition, during the 19th century, societies in general were beginning to accept differences in a population and changes, despite being rather small.
Also, think about the various activities run by your classmates on Thursday and Friday, and tell us how you feel it would have been like to live during 1700-1900.
-It probably would have been a rather limiting existence, born into a caste and staying there for the rest of your life, without much ability to change your work or pay. It might have been more rewarding in a sense considering most jobs involved physical labor, but that’s just me. It might be interesting to live in that time for a while, (but if I was placed at the bottom of the ladder that more than likely will not be the case) I think the overall restrictions on individuality (whether by class or pay) on all but the most wealthy would eventually take its toll on someone of our era, and they would more than likely want to return to our era.
while you could say our society is rather similar in that respect, we at least have more liberties and class equality than before.
During the 1700s and 1800s people were looking for convenience and they tried to make/invent things so that they could do more with the time that they saved. There were a lot of inventions that were made that started what we have today like big factories and a lot of accessories. The century where we live is so similar to back then so it was the start of what we had today. We just made it better and faster. Religion was still there, but they didn’t have that much control over society.
